Sexting and explicit talk in an anonymous chat: rules of consent and safety

Published: · Updated:

Adults have every right to talk openly, but in an anonymous chat such conversations carry risks. Here are rules that keep them safe and enjoyable for both people. Anonroom is for adults only (18+), and all the rules below assume that adults are taking part.

  1. Consent comes first. Before moving to explicit topics, ask whether the other person is comfortable. A “no” or silence means you should change the subject.
  2. Text only. Do not send intimate photos or videos. You don’t know who is on the other side, and such material can be saved, forwarded or used for blackmail.
  3. Don’t give personal details. Name, city, workplace and social media links all make it possible to find you.
  4. Remember screenshots. Any message can be saved. Write only what you are ready to see outside the chat.
  5. Don’t pay or send codes. If your “partner” asks for money to continue or sends links, it is a scam.
  6. Check the age. If you doubt the other person is 18, stop the conversation immediately and report them.

If you face threats or blackmail, don’t give in: pay nothing and send nothing, save screenshots, press “Report” and contact law enforcement in your country.
