Flirting in a chat works differently than in real life: there is no facial expression or intonation, so it is easy to come on too strong. A good guideline is to mirror your partner's pace: if they reply at length and with interest, you can continue in the same tone; if their answers get shorter, it is worth slowing down or changing the subject.
Flirting assumes mutual interest, not persistence. If your partner makes it clear that the topic or tone doesn't suit them, that is perfectly fine, and the best option is simple: end the conversation respectfully and, if you want to keep a playful tone, look for a new partner in “Flirt” mode.
